Coast Miwok
The Coast Miwok are a Native American people who originally inhabited the coastal regions of what is now northern California, particularly around Marin County and Sonoma County. They lived in small, semi-nomadic groups and relied on the rich natural resources of the area, including fish, game, and edible plants. Their culture was deeply connected to the land and sea.
Traditionally, the Coast Miwok spoke the Miwok language, which is part of the larger Penutian language family. They are known for their basketry, which was both functional and artistic. Today, efforts are being made to preserve their heritage and promote awareness of their history and culture.
