Cirencester Abbey
Cirencester Abbey was a medieval monastery located in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England. Founded in the 12th century, it was established by the Cistercian order and became an important religious center in the region. The abbey was known for its impressive architecture and extensive lands, which supported its monastic community.
The abbey was dissolved in 1536 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII. After its dissolution, much of the stone from the abbey was repurposed for local building projects. Today, the site is a historical landmark, with remnants that reflect its former grandeur.
