Chumash language
The Chumash language is a member of the Uto-Aztecan language family, traditionally spoken by the Chumash people of coastal California. It consists of several dialects, including BarbareƱo, Elye'wun, and Ventureno, each associated with different Chumash communities.
Today, the Chumash language is considered endangered, with efforts underway to revitalize it through educational programs and community initiatives. Language preservation is crucial for maintaining the cultural heritage of the Chumash people and fostering a connection to their history and identity.
