Chuckwalla
The Chuckwalla is a large lizard native to the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It typically inhabits rocky deserts and can be identified by its stout body, short legs, and a distinctive, flattened tail. Chuckwallas are primarily herbivorous, feeding on a variety of plants, including leaves and flowers.
When threatened, Chuckwallas can escape by hiding in rock crevices. They have a unique defense mechanism: they inflate their bodies to become too large to be pulled out of their hiding spots. This behavior helps them avoid predators such as hawks and snakes.
