Chornobyl
Chornobyl is a city in northern Ukraine that became known worldwide due to the catastrophic nuclear disaster that occurred on April 26, 1986. A reactor at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded, releasing large amounts of radioactive particles into the atmosphere. This event is considered the worst nuclear accident in history.
The disaster led to the evacuation of over 100,000 people from the surrounding areas, creating an exclusion zone that remains largely uninhabited today. The incident prompted significant changes in nuclear safety regulations and raised awareness about the potential dangers of nuclear energy.
