Chondromalacia Patella
Chondromalacia Patella is a condition characterized by the softening and damage of the cartilage on the underside of the patella, or kneecap. This cartilage acts as a cushion between the patella and the thigh bone, allowing for smooth movement during activities like walking, running, and climbing stairs. When this cartilage deteriorates, it can lead to pain, swelling, and difficulty in knee movement.
The condition is often caused by overuse, injury, or misalignment of the patella. It is commonly seen in athletes and individuals who engage in repetitive knee activities. Treatment options may include physical therapy, rest, and in some cases, surgery to repair the damaged cartilage.
