Chiropteran
Chiropterans, commonly known as bats, are the only mammals capable of sustained flight. They belong to the order Chiroptera, which is divided into two main suborders: Megachiroptera (large fruit bats) and Microchiroptera (smaller insect-eating bats). With over 1,400 species, they play vital roles in ecosystems, such as pollination and pest control.
Bats have unique adaptations, including echolocation, which allows them to navigate and hunt in the dark by emitting high-frequency sounds. Their wings are formed from a thin membrane of skin stretched between elongated fingers, enabling agile flight. Chiropterans are found worldwide, except in extreme desert and polar regions.
