Chinese literati
The term "Chinese literati" refers to a class of educated individuals in traditional China, primarily during the Song to Qing dynasties. These scholars were often well-versed in Confucian texts and held positions in the government or local administration. They played a crucial role in shaping Chinese culture, philosophy, and politics through their writings and teachings.
Literati were not only bureaucrats but also poets, painters, and calligraphers, contributing to the arts and literature. They valued moral integrity and intellectual achievement, often participating in social gatherings known as literati gatherings to discuss ideas and share their works.
