Chinese Ghost Festival
The Chinese Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. It is a time when families honor and remember their deceased ancestors. People believe that during this period, the spirits of the dead return to the living world, and offerings are made to appease them.
Traditions during the festival include burning joss paper, preparing special meals, and setting up altars for the spirits. Many also participate in community events, such as opera performances and lion dances, to entertain the wandering souls and ensure a peaceful coexistence between the living and the dead.
