Chinchorro Culture
The Chinchorro Culture is an ancient civilization that thrived along the coast of present-day Chile and Peru around 7000 to 1500 BCE. Known for their unique mummification practices, the Chinchorro people created some of the oldest known mummies in the world. They used various techniques to preserve their dead, including removing internal organs and using clay to reconstruct facial features.
This culture was primarily composed of hunter-gatherers who relied on marine resources, such as fish and shellfish, for sustenance. The Chinchorro people lived in small, mobile groups and developed tools and fishing techniques that allowed them to adapt to their coastal environment.
