Chilean miners' rescue
In October 2010, a group of 33 miners became trapped underground in the San José mine in Chile. They were stuck for 69 days, approximately 2,300 feet below the surface, after a cave-in blocked their exit. During this time, the miners survived on limited food and water while rescuers worked to reach them.
The rescue operation involved drilling a borehole to establish contact and deliver supplies. Finally, on October 13, 2010, the miners were brought to the surface one by one using a specially designed capsule called the Fénix. The successful rescue garnered worldwide attention and praise for the efforts of the rescue teams.
