Chilean War of the Pacific
The Chilean War of the Pacific (1879-1884) was a conflict between Chile and a coalition of Peru and Bolivia. The war arose primarily over territorial disputes and control of valuable mineral resources in the Atacama Desert. Chile sought to expand its territory and access to the Pacific Ocean, while Bolivia aimed to retain its coastal region.
The war resulted in significant territorial changes. Chile gained control of Bolivia's coastal territory, making it a landlocked country, and acquired the Tarapacá and Antofagasta regions from Peru. The conflict had lasting impacts on the relationships between these countries and shaped the geopolitical landscape of South America.
