Chicxulub Crater
The Chicxulub Crater is a large impact crater located on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. It is about 150 kilometers (93 miles) in diameter and was formed approximately 66 million years ago when a massive asteroid struck the Earth. This event is widely believed to have contributed to the mass extinction of the dinosaurs and many other species.
The crater is buried beneath the town of Chicxulub and surrounding areas, making it less visible. Scientific studies have revealed that the impact caused significant geological changes, including the formation of tsunamis and wildfires. Today, it serves as an important site for research into Earth's history and the effects of asteroid impacts.
