Charlottetown Conference
The Charlottetown Conference took place in September 1864 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It was a significant meeting where representatives from the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island discussed the idea of uniting the British North American colonies into a single federation. This conference laid the groundwork for the eventual creation of Canada.
During the conference, the delegates agreed on the need for a stronger political structure to address common issues such as defense and trade. The discussions led to further meetings, including the Quebec Conference, which ultimately resulted in the British North America Act of 1867, establishing Canada as a self-governing dominion.
