Charles-François Dumouriez
Charles-François Dumouriez was a French general during the French Revolution. Born on January 26, 1739, he played a significant role in the early military campaigns of revolutionary France. Dumouriez is best known for his victories against the Austrian Empire and his leadership at the Battle of Valmy in 1792, which helped secure France's position during the revolution.
Despite his early successes, Dumouriez's political ambitions and disagreements with the revolutionary government led to his downfall. In 1793, he defected to the Austrian forces, seeking to restore the monarchy. His actions ultimately resulted in his exile, marking a dramatic turn in his once-promising military career.
