Charles The Bold
Charles The Bold was a Duke of Burgundy who ruled from 1467 until his death in 1477. He was known for his ambitious efforts to expand his territory and power, seeking to create a strong Burgundian state in what is now modern-day France and Belgium. His reign was marked by conflicts with neighboring states, including the Kingdom of France.
Charles was a patron of the arts and culture, supporting artists and scholars during the Renaissance. His desire for greater autonomy and influence ultimately led to his downfall, as he was defeated at the Battle of Nancy in 1477, which resulted in the loss of much of his territory.
