Charles III, Duke of Lorraine
Charles III, Duke of Lorraine, was born on February 18, 1543, and became the Duke in 1545 after the death of his father, Francis I, Duke of Lorraine. He was a member of the House of Lorraine and played a significant role in the political landscape of 16th-century Europe. His reign was marked by conflicts with the Habsburgs and involvement in the French Wars of Religion.
In 1608, Charles III was also recognized as the Duke of Bar. He worked to strengthen his duchy and maintain its independence amid external pressures. Charles III passed away on December 14, 1608, leaving a legacy of resilience and strategic alliances.
