Charles I of Greece
Charles I of Greece was born on September 20, 1890, and became King of Greece in 1922. He was a member of the House of Glücksburg and ascended to the throne during a tumultuous period in Greek history, marked by political instability and military challenges. His reign was characterized by efforts to stabilize the country and navigate the aftermath of the Greco-Turkish War.
In 1924, Charles I was forced to abdicate following a referendum that established a republic in Greece. He spent the remainder of his life in exile, returning briefly to Greece in 1935 before his death on April 1, 1947.
