Chalk Hill Figures
Chalk Hill Figures are large geoglyphs carved into the chalk hills of southern England. These ancient designs, often depicting animals or human figures, are created by removing the top layer of grass and soil to expose the white chalk beneath. The most famous example is the Uffington White Horse, which dates back to the Iron Age.
These figures serve various purposes, including religious or ceremonial significance, and are thought to be markers of territory. Many of them have been preserved over centuries, attracting tourists and researchers interested in archaeology and history.
