Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory
The Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) is an astronomical research facility located in the Andes Mountains of northern Chile. Established in 1965, it is operated by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) and serves as a key site for astronomical observations in the southern hemisphere. The observatory features several telescopes, including the 4-meter Victor M. Blanco Telescope, which is used for a variety of research projects.
CTIO plays a significant role in advancing our understanding of the universe by providing access to high-quality observational data. Its location at an altitude of 2,200 meters offers excellent conditions for stargazing, with minimal light pollution and clear skies. Researchers from around the world utilize CTIO to study celestial phenomena, contributing to fields such as astrophysics, cosmology, and stellar evolution.
