Cellular Jail
Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a former prison located on Cellular Jail Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Built by the British in the late 19th century, it was designed to isolate political prisoners and prevent them from communicating with each other. The jail's unique architecture features individual cells arranged in a radial pattern, allowing guards to monitor inmates easily.
The prison became notorious for its harsh conditions and brutal treatment of prisoners, many of whom were freedom fighters against British rule. Today, Cellular Jail is a national memorial, attracting visitors who wish to learn about India's struggle for independence and the sacrifices made by those imprisoned there.
