Ceiba pentandra
Ceiba pentandra, commonly known as the kapok tree, is a large tropical tree native to Central and South America, as well as parts of Africa and Asia. It can grow up to 70 meters tall and is known for its wide trunk and large, spreading canopy. The tree produces large, fluffy seed pods filled with fibers that are lightweight and buoyant, often used in stuffing for pillows and life jackets.
The kapok tree thrives in humid, tropical climates and prefers well-drained soils. It plays a significant role in its ecosystem, providing habitat for various species, including birds and insects. Additionally, Ceiba pentandra is culturally significant in many regions, often associated with spiritual beliefs and traditional practices.
