Cecropia moth
The Cecropia moth is one of the largest moths in North America, with a wingspan that can reach up to 6 inches. It is known for its striking appearance, featuring reddish-brown wings adorned with eye-catching yellow and blue markings. This moth is primarily found in deciduous forests and is most active during the late spring and early summer.
Cecropia moths are part of the family Saturniidae, which includes other large moths like the Luna moth. They undergo a complete metamorphosis, starting as eggs, then becoming caterpillars, pupae, and finally emerging as adults. The caterpillars feed on a variety of trees, including maple and cherry, before transforming into beautiful moths.
