Hyalophora
Hyalophora is a genus of large moths belonging to the family Saturniidae, commonly known as giant silk moths. These moths are characterized by their striking colors and patterns, which can vary significantly among species. They are primarily found in North America and are known for their impressive wingspans, which can reach up to 6 inches or more.
The larvae of Hyalophora moths, often referred to as caterpillars, are also notable for their size and distinctive appearance. They feed on a variety of host plants, including trees and shrubs, and undergo a complete metamorphosis, transforming from eggs to caterpillars, then to pupae, and finally emerging as adult moths.
