Caryatid
A Caryatid is a sculpted female figure that serves as an architectural support, taking the place of a column or pillar. These figures are often depicted in flowing garments and are used in classical architecture, particularly in ancient Greek structures. The most famous examples can be found in the Erechtheion, a temple on the Acropolis of Athens.
Caryatids not only provide structural support but also add artistic beauty to buildings. They symbolize grace and strength, embodying the fusion of art and architecture. Similar figures, known as Atlantes, are male counterparts that serve the same purpose in various architectural styles.
