Caroline of Brunswick
Caroline of Brunswick was born on May 17, 1768, in Brunswick, Germany. She became the wife of King George IV of the United Kingdom in 1795, but their marriage was troubled and marked by mutual disdain. Caroline was often at odds with the royal family and faced significant public scrutiny.
After her husband's ascension to the throne in 1820, Caroline sought recognition as queen. However, she was denied this title and faced attempts to divorce her. She lived in Italy for much of her later life and died on August 7, 1821, shortly before her husband's coronation.
