Carnivalesque
Carnivalesque refers to a literary and cultural concept that celebrates the subversion of social norms and hierarchies. It is characterized by humor, chaos, and the blending of high and low culture, often seen during festivals like Carnival. This concept allows for a temporary suspension of the usual rules, enabling people to express their identities freely and challenge authority.
The term was popularized by the literary critic Mikhail Bakhtin, who analyzed the role of the carnival in medieval and Renaissance literature. In his view, carnivalesque moments create a space for creativity and liberation, where the ordinary is turned upside down, and societal boundaries are blurred.
