Carlos Gomes
Carlos Gomes was a Brazilian composer and conductor, born on July 13, 1836, in the city of Cuiabá. He is best known for his operas, particularly "O Guarani," which is based on a novel by the Brazilian author José de Alencar. Gomes was one of the first Brazilian composers to gain international recognition, and his works often incorporated elements of Brazilian folk music.
Throughout his career, Gomes lived in various countries, including Italy, where he studied and composed many of his famous works. He became a prominent figure in the world of opera during the 19th century and contributed significantly to the development of Brazilian classical music. Carlos Gomes passed away on September 16, 1896, in Belém.
