Caribbean Monk Seal
The Caribbean Monk Seal was a marine mammal native to the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. It was known for its robust body, short front flippers, and a thick layer of blubber that helped it stay warm in the water. These seals primarily fed on fish and invertebrates, often foraging in shallow coastal waters.
Unfortunately, the Caribbean Monk Seal was declared extinct in 2008 due to overhunting, habitat loss, and human activities. Conservation efforts for other marine species continue, highlighting the importance of protecting marine ecosystems to prevent similar extinctions in the future.
