Mediterranean Monk Seal
The Mediterranean Monk Seal is a marine mammal found primarily in the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the world's rarest seal species, characterized by its robust body, short snout, and a thick layer of blubber. Adults typically weigh between 200 to 300 pounds and can grow up to 8 feet long. Their fur is dark brown or gray, often with lighter spots.
These seals prefer rocky coastlines and secluded beaches for breeding and resting. They primarily feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Due to habitat loss, hunting, and pollution, the Mediterranean Monk Seal is classified as endangered, with conservation efforts underway to protect its population.
