Carbon Fibers
Carbon fibers are strong, lightweight materials made from thin strands of carbon atoms. They are known for their high tensile strength and stiffness, making them ideal for use in various applications, including aerospace, automotive, and sporting goods. Carbon fibers can be combined with other materials, such as epoxy resins, to create composite materials that enhance performance and durability.
The production of carbon fibers involves a process called pyrolysis, where precursor materials, often polyacrylonitrile (PAN), are heated to high temperatures in an oxygen-free environment. This process removes non-carbon elements, resulting in a fiber that is primarily composed of carbon. Due to their unique properties, carbon fibers are increasingly used in advanced technologies and industries.
