Cape Fold Belt
The Cape Fold Belt is a mountain range located in the southwestern part of South Africa. It was formed during the late Paleozoic era, around 300 million years ago, due to the collision of tectonic plates. This geological event caused the folding and uplifting of sedimentary rock layers, creating the dramatic landscapes seen today.
The belt extends from the Cederberg Mountains to the Outeniqua Mountains and is characterized by steep slopes and deep valleys. It is part of the larger Cape Supergroup, which consists of various rock formations. The region is also known for its rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems.
