The Canterbury Earthquake occurred on February 22, 2011, in the city of Christchurch, located in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. This powerful earthquake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale and struck at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers, causing widespread destruction and significant loss of life.
