Caminho de Santiago
The Caminho de Santiago, or Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrimage routes leading to the shrine of Saint James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It has been a significant pilgrimage site since the 9th century, attracting thousands of pilgrims each year. The most popular route is the Camino Francés, which starts in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France and covers approximately 800 kilometers.
Pilgrims walk the route for various reasons, including spiritual reflection, adventure, and cultural exploration. Along the way, they encounter beautiful landscapes, historic towns, and welcoming albergues (hostels). The journey culminates in the vibrant city of Santiago de Compostela, where pilgrims receive a certificate of completion.
