Way of St. James
The Way of St. James is a network of pilgrimage routes leading to the shrine of Saint James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It has been a significant Christian pilgrimage since the Middle Ages, attracting thousands of pilgrims each year. The most popular route is the Camino Francés, which starts in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France and spans approximately 800 kilometers.
Pilgrims walk the route for various reasons, including spiritual reflection, adventure, and cultural exploration. Along the way, they encounter beautiful landscapes, historic towns, and welcoming albergues (hostels). Completing the pilgrimage often culminates in receiving a certificate called the Compostela.
