Cambodian Riel
The Cambodian Riel is the official currency of Cambodia, abbreviated as KHR. It was first introduced in 1980, replacing the previous currency, the Cambodian piastre. The Riel is subdivided into 100 sen, although sen coins are rarely used in everyday transactions.
In practice, the U.S. dollar is widely accepted in Cambodia, often used alongside the Riel. This dual currency system helps facilitate trade and tourism, as many visitors prefer to use dollars. The Riel is issued by the National Bank of Cambodia, which manages the country's monetary policy.
