California Volcanoes
California is home to several notable volcanoes, primarily located in the northern part of the state. The most famous is Mount Shasta, a stratovolcano that rises over 14,000 feet and is considered one of the most potentially active volcanoes in the United States. Other significant volcanoes include Lassen Peak, which last erupted in 1915, and the Long Valley Caldera, formed by a massive volcanic eruption about 760,000 years ago.
These volcanoes are part of the Cascade Range and the Sierra Nevada region, influenced by the movement of tectonic plates. While they are not currently erupting, scientists monitor them closely for any signs of activity, as they can pose risks to nearby communities.
