COPINH
The Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) is a grassroots organization founded in 1993. It advocates for the rights of indigenous peoples, particularly the Lenca community, and focuses on issues such as land rights, environmental protection, and social justice. COPINH works to empower local communities and promote sustainable development.
COPINH gained international attention after the assassination of its leader, Berta Cáceres, in 2016. The organization continues to fight against the exploitation of natural resources and the violation of indigenous rights in Honduras. Through activism and community organizing, COPINH aims to create a more equitable society for marginalized groups.
