Berta Cáceres
Berta Cáceres was a prominent Honduran environmental and indigenous rights activist. She co-founded the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) and fought against the construction of the Agua Zarca Dam, which threatened the land and resources of the Lenca people. Her activism focused on protecting natural resources and advocating for the rights of indigenous communities.
In 2016, Cáceres was tragically assassinated, drawing international attention to the dangers faced by environmental activists in Honduras.
