C/2015 V2 (Lovejoy)
C/2015 V2 (Lovejoy) is a comet discovered by Australian amateur astronomer Terry Lovejoy in November 2015. It is a long-period comet, meaning it takes a long time to orbit the Sun, with an estimated period of about 11,000 years. The comet was notable for its bright appearance and was visible to the naked eye during its closest approach to Earth.
The comet reached perihelion, or its closest point to the Sun, on January 7, 2016. During this time, it exhibited a prominent tail and a bright coma, making it a subject of interest for both amateur and professional astronomers. C/2015 V2 (Lovejoy) is part of a family of comets that originate from the Oort Cloud, a distant region of our solar system.
