C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy)
C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered by Australian amateur astronomer Terry Lovejoy on August 17, 2014. It is notable for its bright appearance and was visible to the naked eye during its closest approach to the Sun, known as perihelion, which occurred on January 30, 2015.
The comet is part of the Oort Cloud, a distant region of our solar system that is believed to be the source of many long-period comets. C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) provided valuable opportunities for both amateur and professional astronomers to study its composition and behavior as it traveled through the inner solar system.
