C/2014 Q1 (Lovejoy)
C/2014 Q1 (Lovejoy) is a non-periodic comet discovered by Australian astronomer Terry Lovejoy on August 17, 2014. It is notable for its bright appearance and was visible to the naked eye during its closest approach to the Sun, known as perihelion, which occurred on January 30, 2015.
The comet's orbit takes it far beyond the outer planets, with a highly elongated path that brings it into the inner solar system approximately every 8,000 years. C/2014 Q1 (Lovejoy) is part of a group of comets known as long-period comets, which originate from the Oort Cloud.
