Byzantine civil war of 1341-1347
The Byzantine Civil War of 1341-1347 was a conflict over the throne of the Byzantine Empire following the death of Emperor Andronikos III Palaiologos. The war primarily involved two factions: supporters of Andronikos IV Palaiologos, the young son of Andronikos III, and those loyal to John VI Kantakouzenos, a former regent and general.
The struggle for power led to significant social and political turmoil, with both sides seeking control of the empire. The conflict ended in 1347 when John VI Kantakouzenos emerged victorious, becoming emperor and establishing a new regime, though the empire continued to face challenges in the years that followed.
