Byzantine Civil War of 1341-1347
The Byzantine Civil War of 1341-1347 was a conflict in the Byzantine Empire that arose after the death of Emperor Andronikos III Palaiologos. The war was primarily fought between two factions: supporters of Andronikos IV Palaiologos, the young son of Andronikos III, and those loyal to John VI Kantakouzenos, a former regent and general.
The civil war led to significant political instability and weakened the empire, which was already facing external threats from the Ottoman Turks. Ultimately, John VI Kantakouzenos emerged victorious, becoming emperor, while Andronikos IV was imprisoned, marking a critical moment in Byzantine history.
