Buddhist sites in Nagarjunakonda
Nagarjunakonda is an important archaeological site in India, known for its rich Buddhist heritage. Located in the Andhra Pradesh state, it features ancient ruins, stupas, and monasteries that date back to the 2nd century CE. The site is named after the revered Buddhist monk Nagarjuna, who is believed to have lived and taught in the area.
The site was submerged under the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam in the 1960s, but many artifacts were salvaged and relocated to a museum nearby. Visitors can explore the remnants of Buddhist architecture, including beautifully carved pillars and sculptures that reflect the artistic traditions of ancient Indian Buddhism.
