Brood II
Brood II is a group of periodical cicadas that emerge every 17 years in the eastern United States. This specific brood is part of the Magicicada genus, which includes several species known for their synchronized life cycles. The last emergence of Brood II occurred in 2013, and the next is expected in 2030.
During their emergence, millions of cicadas surface, mate, and lay eggs. After a few weeks, the adults die, and the eggs hatch, with the nymphs burrowing into the ground. They will remain underground for 17 years before emerging again, continuing the cycle of life for these unique insects.
