Periodical Cicada
The Periodical Cicada is a unique insect known for its long life cycle, which can last 13 or 17 years, depending on the species. These cicadas spend most of their lives underground as nymphs, feeding on the sap from tree roots. When they emerge, they do so in large numbers, creating a remarkable natural phenomenon.
Once they surface, Periodical Cicadas molt into their adult form, producing a loud mating call to attract partners. After mating, females lay eggs in tree branches, and the cycle begins anew. Their emergence is synchronized, making them a fascinating subject of study in entomology.
