British Protectorate
A British Protectorate is a territory that maintains its own local government but is under the protection and control of the British Empire. In this arrangement, the local rulers retain some authority, while the British government oversees foreign affairs and defense, ensuring stability and security.
Protectorates were common during the 19th and early 20th centuries, as the British Empire expanded its influence globally. Examples include the Protectorate of Uganda and the Protectorate of Zanzibar, where British interests were safeguarded while allowing local customs and governance to continue.
