Boys' Day
Boys' Day, also known as Tango no Sekku, is a traditional Japanese festival celebrated on May 5th. It is part of the Golden Week holiday and is dedicated to celebrating the health and happiness of boys. Families display samurai dolls and carp streamers called koinobori, which symbolize strength and success.
The festival has roots in ancient customs and is linked to the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. Boys' Day is a time for families to wish for their sons' growth and prosperity. It complements Girls' Day, celebrated on March 3rd, which focuses on the well-being of girls.
