Tango no Sekku
Tango no Sekku, also known as Boys' Day, is a traditional Japanese festival celebrated on May 5th. It is part of the Golden Week holiday and is dedicated to the health and happiness of boys. Families display koi-nobori, or carp streamers, which symbolize strength and success, as well as samurai dolls to represent bravery.
The festival has its roots in ancient customs and is linked to the Doyo no Ushi no Hi, a day that marks the beginning of summer. Celebrations often include special foods like kashiwa mochi, rice cakes wrapped in oak leaves, which are enjoyed by families to honor their boys.
